POWER INTERUPTION INFORMATION

 

CSUSB exited the Interruptible Program in May, but we under governor's Exectutive orders we still respond to CAISO warnings, Stage 2s and Stage 3s by lowering our consumption per the ELECTRICAL LOAD REDUCTION PROCEDURES policy.

In Class

  • Turn off all unnecessary lights. Do not use candles for illumination.
  • Utilize alternate rows of lights where possible.
  • Turn off lights in areas that have adequate natural light sources.
  • Turn off all PCs, monitors and printers when not in use.
  • Turn off and unplug all laptop computers when not in use.
  • In order to prevent loss of conditioned air, keep all doors and windows shut.
  • During the winter, blinds and coverings on all west and south facing windows shall be opened to allow for sunlight to heat the buildings, shut the blinds during the summer to keep buildings cool.

At Your Desk

  • Turn off all unnecessary lights. Do not use candles for illumination.
  • Reduce or turn off hallway lighting where possible.
  • Utilize alternate rows of lights where possible.
  • Turn off lights in areas that have adequate natural light sources.
  • Turn off all PCs, monitors and printers when not in use.
  • Turn off all office equipment (such as copiers, scanners and desk calculators) when not in use.
  • Turn off and unplug all laptop computers when not in use.
  • Turn off coffee makers when not in use.
  • Do not print or copy documents unless it is absolutely necessary. If possible, defer copy jobs to 20 pages and larger. Use energy saving buttons when available.
  • Unplug all other desk and office equipment such as clocks, radios, electric pencil sharpeners and mug warmers.
  • Unplug all cellular phone chargers.
  • Unplug microwave ovens and other break room equipment when not in use. Unplug refrigerators that are not in use.
  • Minimize hot water usage.
  • Minimize the use of elevators. Take the stairs.
  • In order to prevent loss of conditioned air, keep all doors and windows shut.
  • Turn off all electric heaters.
  • Turn off all portable fans.
  • During the winter, blinds and coverings on all west and south facing windows shall be opened to allow for sunlight to heat the buildings, shut the blinds during the summer to keep buildings cool.

Moving Around Campus

  • Turn off all unnecessary lights in classrooms and offices. Do not use candles for illumination.
  • Reduce or turn off hallway lighting where possible.
  • Utilize alternate rows of lights where possible.
  • Turn off lights in areas that have adequate natural light sources. 
  • Minimize the use of elevators. Take the stairs.
  • In order to prevent loss of conditioned air, keep all doors and windows shut.
  • Dress warm to minimize the need for additional heating.
